Apertura 8" f/4 Imaging Newtonian OTA

The Apertura 8" f/4 Imaging Newtonian OTA has everything you need for wide-field imaging!

Newtonian Telescope Build

The 32" long OTA is made of rolled steel for added durability and has a diameter of 9". The 8" f/4 Newtonian optical tube assembly has a center-spotted parabolic primary mirror. The four secondary mirror vanes are as thin as possible while maintaining stability. Equipped with diffraction-limited optics, the parabolic primary mirror is housed in an aluminum cell fitted with six "push/pull" collimation knobs so that you can collimate without tools.

Focuser

The dual-speed 2" Crayford focuser includes linear bearings and a monorail that create a sturdy draw tube and reduce drag under heavy loads. Achieve focus with the larger of the two knobs, and then tweak your focus with the small 10:1 micro-focusing knob. The two other knobs on the focuser are a tension knob, allowing adjustments for the drag on the draw tube to match the weight of the load, and a focuser lock. A 35mm extension tube and a 2" to 1.25" compression ring adapter are included to add to the OTA's viewing capabilities.

Mounting the Apertura OTA

The 8" Newtonian can be attached to a wide variety of equatorial mounts. A pair of felt-lined split tube rings is included with the OTA. These rings can be attached by using either the Vixen-sized dovetail that is included or add your own Losmandy-style dovetail plate to the rings (sold separately). The High Point 8" Newtonian OTA also has a dovetailed finder adapter attached and accepts the included 50mm finderscope bracket. An 8x50 straight-through optical finderscope slides easily into this bracket.

Cooling Feature

Sometimes it seems to take forever for your telescope to cool to ambient temperature. The High Point 8" f/4 Imaging Newtonian has a built-in cooling fan will help get your imaging faster. This low-vibration fan is mounted on the primary mirror cell and is powered by a battery pack that holds eight (8) AA batteries (batteries not included).

Customer Reviews (4.6 / 5 · 5 reviews)

Michael ★★★★★

The rolled steel tube keeps the optical path rock solid during long exposures, and the 32-inch length makes it surprisingly easy to balance on my mount. First light on the Orion Nebula had crisp stars corner to corner with my APS-C sensor.

Robert ★★★★★

I was initially worried about collimation drift with an f/4 scope, but the oversized primary mirror cell holds everything rock-solid even after bumping it in the dark. The short 32-inch tube makes it easy to balance on my mount for those all-night narrowband sessions. Fits perfectly in my small car

Carter ★★★★★

The rolled steel tube keeps the whole 32-inch assembly rigid enough that I didn't get any flex during long exposures, and the f/4 speed really cuts down my total imaging time. It's a heavy beast, but the payoff in sharp star fields is worth the setup effort.
