How to Set Up & Use the DT10 Dobsonian

A Dobsonian is perfect for beginners as well as advanced amateur astronomers. Unlike computerized telescopes, a classic Dobsonian does not find objects for you. You do that yourself. It may be a challenge at times, but it is a great way to learn the night sky. To set up the Apertura Dobsonian, put the rocker box on fairly level ground, set the optical tube in the cradle, slide the finder scope on, put an eyepiece in the focuser, and start observing. To move the telescope, push or rotate it in the direction you wish to go, and use the 8X50 finderscope to help you center the object in your field of view.

Included Accessories

The Apertura DT10 comes with a 2" Crayford style focuser, an 8x50 straight through finder, a 25mm eyepiece, and a lens cap:

    • Crayford Style 2" Focuser: This single speed, 2" focuser is great for obtaining a focus that resists wobble and backlash. The smooth spring loaded shaft will ensure that you keep focus throughout your observations. It will accept 1.25" and 2" eyepieces and accessories with the included 2" to 1.25" adapter.
    • 8x50 Straight Through Finder: This 8 x 50 finder (8 power, 50mm) is a great way to help you find celestial objects, whether it means centering the moon or taking a gander at the stars in Orion's Belt. The finder scope provides sharp views with a built-in focusing system near the front of the tube. The straight through design also eliminates the need for the built-in correct image erecting prism.
    • 25mm Plossl Eyepiece: The 25mm Plossl Eyepiece is a fantastic addition to this DT10 Dob. The eyepiece has a 1.25" barrel, a 52° field of view, and 22mm of eye relief. It can also accept 1.25" filters and has a 4-element optical lens design. With the multi-coated lens surface and the blackened lens edges, this eyepiece is great for delivering crisp and clear images!
    • Lens Cap : Sometimes an astronomer's greatest enemy is dust. That is why Apertura is including a lens cap with the purchase of the DT10. When not in use, placing the lens cap on the front end of the Apertura 10 will protect in the mirrors from the majority of the dust accumulation.

Smooth gliding on the Dobsonian base made zeroing in on Jupiter's moons effortless, even at a 250x magnification. My six-year-old was able to spot the Orion Nebula as a fuzzy patch on his first try. Focus is crisp right out of the box with the included eyepieces.

Lucy ★★★★★

The 10-inch aperture really pulls in the light; I could see the Orion Nebula's wispy structure more clearly than I ever expected from a dob. The smooth motion of the base makes tracking objects feel intuitive, even for a beginner like me. Only thing is it's a bit heavy to move around, but the views

Setup was genuinely easy even for someone like me who’s never owned a scope, and the 10-inch aperture pulled in Saturn’s rings with a crispness I didn’t expect on the first clear night. The included eyepieces gave decent views, though I’ve already ordered a wider-angle one to fit more of the moon in
