The renowned, original Lumicon 2" OIII narrow bandpass filter (11nm) isolates just the two doubly-ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm lines) emitted by planetary and emission nebulae while blocking the rest of the overall spectrum of light. The result is extreme contrast between the black background of space and the delicate photons of OIII light needed for near-photographic views of the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell and Orion nebulae, among other objects. See for yourself; it's truly amazing what the OIII filter allows you to see! Lumicon tests every filter individually on a Perkin-Elmer Double-Beam spectrophotometer, inscribing on the filter its % transmission for each of the primary lines. Do not settle for cheap imitations.

Not intended for photography (use the Lumicon Deep Sky Filter).

Finally got this OIII filter out under a dark sky last weekend, and the Veil Nebula went from barely visible to showing distinct twisted ribbons. The 11nm bandwidth is tight enough to kill the sky glow without losing the fainter patches.

Edward ★★★★★

I was skeptical about how much difference a narrowband filter could make, but on the Orion Nebula the contrast improvement was almost shocking. The 11nm bandpass does an incredible job isolating those oxygen lines without letting other light pollution sneak in.

Sebastian ★★★★★

The 2" barrel fits my eyepiece setup without any adapters, and the 11nm bandpass made the Veil Nebula pop out of the background like a switch was flipped. It’s the first filter I reach for now on any emission nebula, even from my light-polluted backyard.
